Dr. Bobby Tee

Dr Bobby Tee obtained his PhD in Genetics from the University of California, Davis. During his career, Dr Bobby Tee has served in various international organizations including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Iran and Bhutan, as well as consultant and advisor in various local government agencies in the field of agriculture development. In 1984, Dr Tee was awarded the coveted Rolex Award for Enterprise for his originality and endeavor in developing the technique for continuous production of asparagus in Mt Kinabalu area in Sabah. Asparagus grows well and continuously in irrigated highlands, reaching maturity nine months after sowing. The enormous root system of the asparagus plant, set firmly by permanent cultivation would hold back the soil and save the sloping fields from erosion
Dr Tee has published some 30 papers and co-authored six books on agriculture. He joined ACGT in 2007 to manage the development of jatropha. Earlier Dr Tee collected accessions and cultivars from various countries and in April 2007 through careful selection, isolated cultivars capable of producing fruits five months from sowing. Dr Tee has presented his selection techniques in various international conferences on jatropha. Dr Tee was personally responsible for planting the entire 22 hectares of ACGT land in Sepang to produce quality seeds for other projects of ACGT. Currently, Dr Tee is a consultant managing research and development on cultivation and uses of Jatropha curcas as an alternative source of green energy.
