Prof. Nam Hai Chua

Prof. Nam Hai ChuaProfessor Chua Nam Hai has a distinguished academic career beginning with his B.S. in Botany and Biochemistry from the University of Singapore in 1965 and his A.M. and Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1967 and 1969, respectively. He was a lecturer in biochemistry at the University of Singapore Medical School from 1969 to 1971. Professor Chua joined Rockefeller in 1971 as a Research Associate in Cell Biology, was named Assistant Professor in 1973, Associate Professor in 1977 and Professor in 1981. Since 1988, Professor Chua holds the position of the Andrew W. Mellon Professor and Head of Laboratory of Plant Molecular Biology at the Rockefeller University, New York City.

Professor Chua has served and continues to serve on advisory boards of governmental organizations, academic institutions and multinational companies in 16 countries. He was awarded Einstein Professorship of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2007. He is currently the Chairman of the Strategic Research Program Management Committee and a member of the Management Board of Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory (Singapore). Professor Chua also serves as a Corporate Advisor to Temasek Holdings. In this capacity, he advises Temasek Holdings on potential biotechnology investments globally.
